Springtime, Easter & a mishap

It's Springtime! For N(9), this has meant a radical new haircut... not entirely a planned change, though. Here's how she tells it in her own hand:


Yes that's right: D(7) flew his toy drone into her hair, which messed it up into one large dreadlock, and the only thing that could be done was to cut it off. Which she was actually surprisingly happy about! And to be honest, so am I: no more fighting about brushing the hair (which she hated), it's quick dry and style and isn't it just super gorgeous and cute?



Apart from flying drones in the house, what else have we been up to this Springtime? 

We've been enjoying the garden so much - we tend to just not use it at all over the winter! But now we're getting into a bit of gardening, enjoying the hammock, and did an Easter egg hunt (of course). I'm loving how the two of them get along and read together. Dog Man continues to be a huge part of their lives!

As it was a long weekend, we also had a special outing to a place somewhat further afield - Slimbridge Wetlands Centre, which I hadn't been to since N was a baby. There's actually a lot there, we didn't even see it all, so must go back sometime soon! We all had a great time on this family outing.







And with that, I sign off for now - we're going to Spring Harvest next week, hooray!

My last post about our journey in Catholicism is now nearly two years old ( The Circle Completed: How I became Catholic, kind of again ) and much has happened. After a few recent milestones, it feels like it's time for an update, along with some more thoughts on the whole process. N(8)'s First Holy Communion - with our Priest, Father Colin. In the other post, I talked about why I returned to the Church - at that time, the children had been baptised and Mr. was in RCIA (the year of preparation for becoming Catholic).  We had already done our research, of course, so RCIA wasn't so much about learning new information as it was to get to know the parish and the priest, making connections. Another man in our group turned out to be a convert from a very similar background as us - a small evangelical church close to us, where I had taken the kids for toddler groups in the past. Thrown into to a new reality, then back to the old

Towards the end of August this year, Mr. and I suddenly faced a very different future to the one we had envisioned: at 42 years old - and he's 55 - I found myself pregnant again. Camping after our summer trip - and I've just found out I'm pregnant As it's been seven years since D(7) was born, we really didn't expect that. We would have loved more kids soon after D, but I just never got pregnant. Seven years on, we were pretty convinced that this was our lot. Two beautiful children, we really can't complain! So we needed a bit of time to digest that. A new baby, with siblings 8 and nearly 10 years older! And Mr. would be 75 when that child was 20... the maths was mind boggling. Home Ed Questions: what about socialisation?

Last week, a reporter and cameraman from the BBC visited our house to do a feature about home education. It was great fun, a real adventure for the kids to be interviewed! The team spent 90 minutes at our house, but of course they had to condense that down to a couple of minutes for the feature, and sadly the kids' interviews didn't make the cut. (A transcript article of the feature is here ) I had put my hand up for doing this because the reporter had every intention to make this a positive piece on home education, and so it was; the premise was to try and answer why there had been such an uptick in home education in the past few years.
