Vienna 2026: Now with Tween attitudes
We're two weeks into our Vienna summer - which we do every year. And like last year and perhaps even the year before, I wonder if we should do it again next year. The pressure to change is increasing with the tween attitudes, particularly from N(11) who is busier missing her friends than enjoying what's on offer here.
Playgrounds are boring now.
Lidos and beaches are still fun, but the kids are now at an age where they no longer easily meet other kids their age: as toddlers, that was a breeze, and even beyond that they were very good at simply chatting up random kids and playing. But those times are past - the awkwardness is here, and meeting new people is difficult. They play with one another beautifully, but when they do, they tend to speak English: which is really not the point!

There's also the issue of boredom with all the things we've done before. For little kids, there's certainly a comfort in recognising places and activities, but they are now getting to a place where the familiar is boring and they want to experience more new things.
Maybe next year it really is time for a change.
